Why Youboxd exists

Youboxd was born from a simple idea: if we can rate, review and share films on Letterboxd, why was there still no real place to do the same for YouTube videos?

The idea came late at night after I stumbled across a tweet asking why nobody had built a "Letterboxd for YouTube" yet (shoutout to @Curlux). My first reaction was that it had to exist already. The idea felt too obvious not to have been done, and too good not to work.

So I looked. And I could not find any serious alternative.

So I built Youboxd.

The problem

YouTube is one of the biggest cultural platforms on the web, yet there is almost no space designed to keep track of what we watch, write real criticism, revisit favorite videos, or discover new gems through other people instead of just through the algorithm.

That is what Youboxd is for.

Here, you can rate videos, write reviews, follow people who share your taste, explore profiles, revisit your own history, and discover videos YouTube may never have shown you at the right moment.

Youboxd borrows a few familiar review-platform codes, but keeps one idea at the center: the best discoveries do not always come from an algorithm. Very often, they come from a person who loves the same things you do.

Youboxd is an independent project, built around one simple obsession: giving YouTube videos the critical, social and cultural space they deserve.

If YouTube is part of your internet culture, Youboxd is for you.
